Buxa Tiger Reserve

The Buxa Tiger Reserve is a protected area in the Alipurduar district of West Bengal, India. It is located in the northern part of West Bengal, bordering Bhutan and Assam. The reserve was established in 1983 and was declared a tiger reserve in 1997. It is one of the most important protected areas in the Eastern Himalayas and is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, including the Bengal tiger, Asian elephant, leopard, clouded leopard, and many species of deer, birds, and reptiles

Buxa Fort

A historical marvel, Buxa Fort stands as a testament to various eras, from the Bhutanese rulers to the British Raj, who used it as a high-security prison. The trek to the fort (around 4 km from Santalabari) is scenic and offers panoramic views of the surrounding forests. The fort is believed to have been a refuge for freedom fighters during India’s struggle for independence.
