Buxa Tiger Reserve
The Buxa Tiger Reserve is a protected area in the Alipurduar district of West Bengal, India. It is located in the northern part of West Bengal, bordering Bhutan and Assam. The reserve was established in 1983 and was declared a tiger reserve in 1997. It is one of the most important protected areas in the Eastern Himalayas and is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, including the Bengal tiger, Asian elephant, leopard, clouded leopard, and many species of deer, birds, and reptiles.
Buxa Fort
A historical marvel, Buxa Fort stands as a testament to various eras, from the Bhutanese rulers to the British Raj, who used it as a high-security prison. The trek to the fort (around 4 km from Santalabari) is scenic and offers panoramic views of the surrounding forests. The fort is believed to have been a refuge for freedom fighters during India’s struggle for independence.
Lepchakha
A small, picturesque Indo-Bhutanese village that can be reached by trekking from Buxa Fort, offering incredible sunrise views.
Boro Mahakal Cave & Temple
The “boro mahakal cave” in Jayanti is a stalactite cave dedicated to Lord Shiva, part of the Mahakal Caves complex in West Bengal. It’s located near the Bhutan border, within the Buxa Tiger Reserve, and is a popular pilgrimage site and tourist destination. The trek to Boro Mahakal involves hiking through dense forest and crossing a river, making it an adventurous journey.

Pokhri Lake is located near Jayanti in the Dooars region of West Bengal, India. Pokhri Hill, about 4 km from Jayanti, is a historic site and a place of religious significance for locals and Bhutanese. The Pokhri Lake, a sacred pond on the hill, is known for its Magur fish and turtles.

Aaltapori Homestay is the best place in Jayanti, specially Mr. Rajdeep Dey and his parent's behaviour is too good. Their hospitality is marvelous. Their homemade food is so tasty and fully hygienic and also the staffs' behaviour of the home stay is very nice. I am totally satisfied. Next time I will visit again this homestay.
